Later March Update 2020

Well, we had quite a time at the Heritage Preservation Center, kicking off the new season of Museum Thursdays with History, Songs and Stories. It was a full house at this terrific performance venue and the audience was all anyone could ask for, with people coming from as far away as Massachusetts (Full disclosure: they were old friends from another life in the last century.) Next up at the HPC is a returns engagement of five-time winner of the West Virginia State Liars' Contest, the thoroughly entertaining…

Early March 2020 Update

Hello to Everyone from the mountains of SW Virginia, where there is a movement afoot for Wythe County - among others - to secede from Virginia and become freshly minted counties in West Virginia for reasons which meed no explanation, if you've been following the headlines. Apparently, it's possible and legal. I'll keep you posted.

Now to the NEWS:

As you can see, I have a new website. Please stop by whenever you like, leave a comment or send me a note via femerson@embarqmail.com. I'll be posting regular…

January 2020 Update

January 2020 Update Hello to everyone out there in 20/40…correctible to 2020 – No, I’m not talking about myopia or a TV program about an unsolved murder or missing co-ed, but rather about the unlikely, uncomfortable-to-admit year in which we find ourselves. It’s uncomfortable for me in particular because with the demise of Kevin Barry’s Pub, I find that my performing career, such as it be, is in hiatus. This is not to be confused with a hiatal hernia, even though sound equipment can be cumbersome at…

October 2019 Update

October Update 2019 Jello, my name is Inigo Montoya Hold on, hold on…no it’s not. Sometimes I get confused and lose control. It’s been going on a long time now. When I was a kid, I almost drowned and somebody else’s life flashed before my eyes. Even though I survived, I still feel like I got rooked somehow. Not for nothing and FYI, but I hear that Gary Larson may be thawing out “The Far Side” after 25 years in cryogenica. Now if they could only do something about Ted Williams. I hope each of you got…

The dates are Tuesday the 13th through Sunday the 18th. [That’s six (6) days this time around.] Starting time Tuesday –Saturday is 8:00. On Sunday, I’ll go on after the session. July 2019 Update

Update July 2019 Hello to All – As I write this it is not quite hot enough to melt a brass door knob, but it will definitely make it mushy. And that’s in the mountains of SW Virginia, mind you. I have a suspicion that the temperature in Savannah, Georgia – where I am playing next week – will make the temperature here in Wytheville seem on the chilly side. Speaking of Savannah, it was 38 years ago this very month that I was first engaged by Vic Power to appear at Kevin Barry’s. Tempus has certainly…

May 2019 Update

May 2019 Update As Jack Benny used to open his radio program and plug his sponsor at the same time, “Jello again!” I hope everyone is swell and that Spring is busting out all over (I’d apologize for adapting/stealing from Rogers & Hammerstein, but they’re both beyond apologies now.) Anyway, I’m looking forward to being back at Kevin Barry’s (117 W. River Street, Savannah, GA 31401 912-233-9626) for another chance to inflict my presence on innocent – and even some not-so-innocent – audiences next week.…

April 2019 Update

April 2019 Update Hello to all there – I trust everyone had a safe and happy and successful celebration of the Feast of St. Patrick. Did you? You can tell if your celebration was safe and happy and successful if you’ve ended up with the same number of eyes, ears, teeth and noses. Sometimes it takes a while to do an accurate accounting and file the after action reports, so I don’t expect all of you to have an answer right now. Congrats if you did and remember it’s less than a year until the next…

March 2019 Update

March 2019 Update Hello to Everyone and Anyone – We’ve come to that time of year again when we all honor the traditional death date of St. Patrick: 17 March 461. It’s also known as his Feast Day. Many of us might attend mass or some alternative religious service, then we might participate in or put in an appearance at a marvelous shamrock-ish parade – before, during and after which we might consume various victuals and potables (green tinted or normal) to fully or perhaps more than fully celebrate the…
